Does Your Car Have A Recall Item?

Posted November 30, 2016 8:01 AM

Recalls are pretty serious for Bushwood residents and don't happen all that often. But sometimes cars have less serious problems that Bushwood residents still might want to know about. For these less serious cases, the vehicle manufacturer issues what is known as a Technical Service Bulletin – or TSB. These bulletins tell Bushwood service centers (including Hill's Auto Repair, Inc.) how to repair a problem that occurs frequently or is especially difficult.

Your Bushwood service center receives updated information through subscription plans, which are sometimes available in consumer versions too.

Whatever your source, pay attention to Bushwood vehicle recalls to keep you and your passengers safe.

No matter how well they're made, vehicles are bound to have problems with their design or manufacturing. Think of all the moving parts. When the government thinks a problem is really serious, they require the vehicle manufacturer to issue recall notices to Bushwood residents and to fix the affected vehicles free of charge. The they try to contact all Bushwood residents who own that type of car so they can have it taken care of at their Bushwood service center.

To find out if your car has any recall issues, give us a call:

Arrive Alive in Bushwood

Posted November 22, 2016 11:33 AM

We've all seen drivers do crazy things while driving to or from Bushwood. A guy shaving in the rear-view mirror, a woman applying makeup, people talking on their phones, texting or drinking from an enormous coffee mug. It's a wonder we even dare drive on Maryland roads.

The truth is that all of us are distracted when we drive. Unfortunately, traffic, road construction and other external factors are beyond our control. The distractions inside our car, however, are things we can often control.

Here's some things that'll give you more control in your car, and help keep your attention on the roads around Bushwood.

  • Bushwood drivers who are 16 to 20 years old tend to be more distracted by the radio, CD or MP3 player.
  • Bushwood drivers who are 20 to 29 are more distracted by passengers in the car, including small children.
  • Those over age 65 tend to be more distracted by objects or events that are outside of the vehicle.

Other factors like fatigue, stress and lack of sleep make it harder to pay attention to driving – no matter what age we are. It is always better to pull over and take a quick nap than risk falling asleep at the wheel. Bushwood drivers are also distracted by thinking about relationships, family issues, money and bills. So what can Bushwood drivers do to manage these distractions? Well, the first thing is to eliminate as many as we can.

If you really think you have to shave, change your clothes or put on make-up while driving in Bushwood – you're wrong. Just start getting ready earlier so you have enough time to finish those things before you drive around Bushwood.

The professional here at Hill's Auto Repair, Inc. wand you to remember that driving is probably the most dangerous thing you'll do all day – so don't make it any worse. Use these tips to keep you and your loved ones safer behind the wheel in Bushwood.

Picking the Right Tires in Bushwood

Posted November 15, 2016 8:03 AM

Shopping for tires in Bushwood can be bewildering because there are many choices. Let's simplify. There are four main classifications of tires, each designed for different purposes.

First off, there are summer tires. Those who buy summer tires in Bushwood are looking for maximum summertime performance. The rubber is a little softer to help stick to the road on fast corners on Maryland roads. The tread has wide blocks at the shoulder to stiffen the tire in turns. The tread design can handle rain but really isn't set up for snow and ice.

Next comes winter tires. Bushwood people buy winter tires because they still like performance driving when it's cold and slippery on Maryland roads, so they need a tread design that'll really bite into ice and snow. The rubber compound is formulated to stay pliable when temperatures drop below 45 degrees F/7 degrees C so they get great traction even on dry roads. On the other end of the winter tire spectrum are tires designed to handle well in severe ice and snow conditions.

The third category is all-season tires. Most new cars in Bushwood showrooms come with all-season tires. This is a tire that is designed to be used all year round. The tread design and rubber compound is a compromise that won't give you the extreme capabilities of summer or winter tires; but if you're driving and weather conditions aren't at the extreme ends of the range, all-season tires might suit you just fine.

The last category is what you might have on your SUV or pickup. All-terrain or off-road tires are designed for both highway and off-road use – a tire that gets good traction in the dirt and on off-road obstacles, but still performs well on paved Bushwood roads.

Choosing the right tire is important for Bushwood car owners. Talk with your Hill's Auto Repair, Inc. tire professional about your driving requirements and receive valuable guidance on tires that will meet your needs.

Hill's Auto Repair, Inc. Automotive Tips: Alternator

Posted November 8, 2016 7:58 AM

Your alternator makes electricity to start and run your engine and all of the vital electrical systems in your vehicle. That’s everything from the on-board computers to the turn signals. And of course there is the entertainment system, seat heaters, power windows and everything you plug into the power outlets. After your alternator makes enough electricity to do all that, it recharges your battery with what’s left over.

When Bushwood drivers constantly have a low or dead battery, the alternator is usually a prime suspect. However, the alternator is just one vital component of the starting/charging system, and a problem with any of the other components could be the actual cause.

In addition to the alternator, the charging/starting system includes the battery, starter, serpentine belt system and all of the electrical cables that connect them. Your Hill's Auto Repair, Inc. service advisor has a systematic process of testing components and connections to get to the source of your trouble. The initial symptoms determine where to begin the diagnostic process, and he follows the procedure until he tracks down the culprit.

For example, diagnostic tests at Hill's Auto Repair, Inc. could reveal that the alternator is not generating enough electricity to keep the battery charged. Is the alternator bad? Not necessarily. A worn serpentine belt tensioner could be allowing the belt that spins the alternator to slip. So the perfectly good alternator is not spinning at the proper speed. The solution for Bushwood drivers is to replace the serpentine belt system – not the alternator.

The good news for Bushwood drivers is that our highly-trained technicians at Hill's Auto Repair, Inc. can properly diagnose all your vehicle troubles and make the necessary repairs to get you back on the road in Bushwood.

Hill's Auto Repair, Inc. Automotive Tips: Diagnostic Service

Posted November 1, 2016 9:13 AM

Imagine waking up one morning with a stomach ache. You pick up the phone, call the doctor’s office and say, “I’ve got a really bad tummy ache. How much will it cost to make me feel better?” Of course you wouldn’t do that. You know that there could be a lot of reasons for your symptoms and that the doctor will have to examine you, ask some questions and probably run some tests before she can tell you what’s wrong and give you treatment options.

This same scenario plays out every day at Maryland auto repair facilities. When the cause of the concern isn’t obvious, the car will need to undergo a diagnostic examination. The typical car has about 30,000 parts, including several networked computers and miles of wiring. Finding exactly what is wrong can be very complicated and take some time. The most experienced technicians at Hill's Auto Repair, Inc. in Bushwood are the ones who tackle the difficult diagnostic jobs. Once they have determined the cause of the trouble, they can work out the plan for how to fix it and tell you how much it will cost.

When you think about it this way, it makes perfect sense that, 1) the Hill's Auto Repair, Inc. service advisor cannot provide an estimate before the diagnosis is done, and 2) there is a charge for auto diagnostic services in Bushwood. You expect to pay for an office visit to the doctor and for any necessary tests before you can be presented with your treatment options and costs; same goes for your vehicle.

We know it can be frustrating for Bushwood drivers when something is wrong with your car and you aren’t sure what is going to be involved in getting it fixed. We are passionate about helping you through the process, communicating with you at each step along the way. We have highly trained diagnostic technicians and technologically-advanced diagnostic equipment to uncover the cause of your trouble. We use quality replacement parts to help make sure you stay on the road after the repair is done. That’s our prescription for automotive peace of mind.
