Why Wheel Balancing and Tire Rotation Save You Money on Tires

Posted May 20, 2014 12:00 PM

Bushwood drivers want their tires to last as long as possible. Two ways to extend tire life are wheel balancing and tire rotation.

When wheels are out of balance, they wobble and vibrate. That makes the tires wear in a cupping pattern. If a front wheel is out of balance you'll feel it in the steering wheel. If it's a rear wheel you'll feel it through your seat. To fix this, your technician at Hill's Auto Repair, Inc. puts weights on your wheels to balance them out.

That brings us to tire rotation. The front tires on a vehicle wear out faster than the rear tires. As they push through turns, the shoulders of the front tires wear down. So rotating front and rear tires allows them to all wear at about the same rate over the life of the tire.

Proper tire inflation will also help Bushwood folks' tires last longer. Underinflated tires wear more on the shoulder and may even overheat. This could cause tire damage or a blow out. Overinflated tires wear too fast in the middle.

Four-wheel-drive trucks and SUV's tend to wear their tires more unevenly so rotation is even more important with them. Give Hill's Auto Repair, Inc. a call to get our recommendation for your vehicle.

See your owner's manual or ask your service advisor at Hill's Auto Repair, Inc. for your recommended tire rotation schedule. It's usually every 5,000 to 8,000 miles, or 8,000 to 13,000 km.

Tires are among the most important safety components on your vehicle. Take care of them and they'll take care of you.

What People Say About Us

Unless you hang out around the 7th District you may not be aware of this repair shop. I was referred by a family friend who is a ASE mechanic. I have had a chronic problem with my 2006 pickup truck for the last 2 years that no other shop has been able to successfully diagnosis or repair, including the dealer. I emailed Hills Auto Repair asking for an estimate on what I thought might solve the problem. David emailed me back asking to see and inspect the vehicle first rather than simply provide an estimate. I made an appointment and I dropped the truck off. The next day David called me to say that his technician was able to isolate the problem, and was even able to experience the issue I described during his extended test drive. David said his technician was most certain as to what was wrong and that he could repair my truck that day. The actual repair cost was much, much less than what I thought it was going to be had they done what I was initially asking the estimate for. I truly felt David and the technician were honest and looking out for my interest rather than their bottom line. I picked my truck up that evening and it ran fantastic. It has now been almost one week and the truck is running as good as the day I bought it, something it hasn't done in quite awhile. The good folks at Hill's Auto Repair saved me thousands of dollars since now I no longer have to worry about buying a new truck in this market. Needless to say I am elated, I simply cannot express in words how happy I am that my truck has been properly serviced and is running so great. If you need your car or truck serviced it is worth the trip to Hill's Auto Repair.
